This article was comparing and contrasting Singapore's culture to Chinese culture. Although there may be many Chinese descendants living in Singapore, the country still has many huge differences with the culture of China. There is a dialect of Chinese as one of the countries' official language. Multiracial gatherings, food, and even leisure activities such as the sport wushu are different than the Chinese culture. If these
Chinese Singaporeans were to understand their own culture well, they can be more confident as Chinese Singaporeans.
I feel happy that Singapore has its own unique culture because many countries have their own unique culture. Singapore may have a culture that is similar to one of the largest of the world, but Singapore has altered that over years to make it somewhat different. When comparing Singapore to Chinese cultures, it is quite obvious that they are similar based on some cultural aspects, but other aspects make it seem as if they are not related at all. I found it confusing as to how this developed in less than a century of time because that seems quite fast for a culture to grow.
The events practiced in the article define the culture of Singapore because culture is about the different ways of life of different people. The food that they eat, the way of social gatherings, and even the leisure activities that Singaporeans do is all a part of the culture in the country. These events distinguish Singaporeans from other groups such as Chinese whom many say are similar to Singaporeans.
